Bread's Integration and Healing Journey

Hello Fellow Dog Supporters,
At the time of adoption, Bread was a 1 yr old mixed breed male. He was an unsocialized fearful pup that had lived in an outside kennel when he was brought to Care Humane, early this year. Thankfully, they were able to care for him.
When Bread joined our home, he was scared of absolutely every sound inside and outside of the house. The microwave, doors closing, unexpected movements of humans, airplanes, neighbors working outside all put him in a panic state. He was also very scared of the normal volume of conversation. (Football Saturdays had to be silenced in our home for a bit!) He was scared of men and absolutely fearful of a particular stance with men. He didn’t understand that it can take 30 minutes to 90 minutes to cook a meal. He really knew very little about home living. All of these things made him a flight risk, because life was just so scary.
In the time that we have had Bread, he has touched our hearts and has reminded us of the impact that patient compassion with clear communication can bring to the world. Bread trusted us enough to be willing to heal from his traumas and learn what young dog family life is like. He has completely melted our hearts and has filled us with joy.
Bread is now interacting with all people, can sleep through Auburn football games, has great recall off the leash and has completely bonded with our Ausiedoodle. We never expected him to come this far in the time we have known him. All he needed was a place that could listen to his needs and space to be a happy healthy dog. He did the rest.
Other major accomplishments Bread has made:
He will run and play now, throughout the day. (Not only play for a few minutes) He will sit up and look outside the car window on car rides. (Not just keep his head down) He will look out the window in the house. (Not ignore the outside world)
He is whistle, voice and nonverbal cues; command trained. (And still learning) He will have snuggle time with the men in our family. (Major shift in security) He will stay calm and confident with any tone and volume of conversation around him. (Not be scared)
He will play all day long with his mate without hurting her. (He has learned how to control his muscles to be gentle and doesn’t isolate himself anymore)
Bread has fully caught up to his developmental age and loves to learn and be active. He has taught me that I need to continue teaching him for him to live a fulfilled life. As he continues in his dog training, I will evaluate if he will be a service dog, a farm dog or a dog to help other dogs in dog training. When he shows me what he wants to do, I know it will be amazing. Best of all, he already is an amazing addition to our family.
Picture #1 - Sit & Stay:

This is Bread’s first time with “Sit and Stay” with leash to the ground.
Not only did he stay, he stayed as a critter was up to something in the bushes next to him!!
Picture #2 - Bread’s Happy Face pictures:
Bread was so excited to be on the couch with his own tennis ball when he first came to us. That first picture was a very happy face, in those days.

The second picture is Bread’s happy face now. That is how he looks all the time - calm and confident, enjoying being part of all of our activities.
